The C1581 Project Page

Introduction

Welcome to the C1581 Project Page! The 1581 was Commodore's 3.5" disk drive or the 8-bit machines with IEC interface. There are a few goals with this project:

• Convert the schematics to Kicad and release schematics for others to create their own boards.
• Make a clone board with enhancements for existing cases.
• Make a smaller board for internal use such as my C64D project.
• Make a new pcb and modified firmware that supports dual-drives with one controller.
• Design and 3D-print a new dual-drive case.

The boards have the following enhancements:

• Jumpers for 1581/Amiga OR PC drive.
• Jumpers for mechs using Drive 0 or 1.
• Skinny-dip RAM.
• Bigger ROM allows selection of two sets of firmware (normal/jiffydos).
• Optional header for internal power.
• Optional Barrel jack for 12V single-supply.
• Long-pads for easier soldering.
• Connector to use slim-line 3.5" laptop drive (C1581i only).

The first goal is done. The second and third goals are in progress, and the last two are being researched.
